MyStuff power user interface

Here’s a new wireframe for the power-user view of the MyStuff eportfolio, portfolio, system. This is the view that most users will probably want when they get bored of the ‘blog’ type view. It’s an intuitive and easy to use interface that follows windows explorer type conventions.
The wireframe.

The wireframe with some notes.

And here are the [...]

A suggestion for improving the OU website Information Architecture

I’ve been working with David Winter on some usable web design guidelines for colour, typography and grid layout. We’ve just about cracked the colours and will be determining some usable and accessible combinations (themes if you like) that can be grabbed and applied to your designs with ease. We’ve also recently been tackling typography and [...]

My Stuff Lite

What would I want from My Stuff? Well, the most simple and intuitive interface possible. I’d want a quick and easy way to get to my stuff in as few clicks as possible. So something more like this:

A simple table format enabling me to sort my stuff by title, tag, description and last update. The [...]

My Stuff - HTML protosite draft

I have been coding up the latest My Stuff design. It offers more of an understanding of the user-experience than my graphic design files but it does not interface with any back-end magic like databases and things like that. You can click from place to place. Somethings are more realised than others. This will become [...]

My Stuff - design progress

Imagining that sometime soon the OU web colour pallette might be revised, improved and made more accessible, I’ve been playing with colour schemes using Adobe’s fantastic Kuler web app. Here I can select an OU brand colour and generate sympathic colours schemes from it. I then use a little artistic license to get semi-accessible colours [...]

Making My Stuff accessible and brand compliant

…is no small task!

Big version
This retains the warmth from the yellow but feels a little washed out to me.
The limited colours available in the OU brand pallette really restrict the designs you can create if you need to be accessible. But I’ve been having a go.

Big version
This moves more into the red arena, away from [...]

ePortfolio design options

Here are my ePortfolio designs. Please comment on them using their reference number.
You are not commenting on the wording, just the overall look and feel!
001

A plain and simple design using a few brand colours, official fonts and big “web 2.0″ type.
002

Building on 001, this adds a little more design but still keeps it minimal. The [...]

ePortfolio global navigation

A simple global navigation bar. Too cold? Too hot? Or just right?

ePortfolio user experience influences

Backpack, Flickr, Google Notebook, del.icious, Google Spreadsheets, Writely, Google Mail (Gmail), Google Page Creator, Basecamp, Blogger, Ta-da list and YouTube all contribute to my thinking around the user interface for the OU ePortfolio project.
Anything you think I should take a look at? Let me know.
