Gem, the thread-bare hideously green carpet is next to be ripped up so I’m not too bothered about geting walpaper on it.
Chris, we’ve borrowed a steamer but are yet to use it. The amazingly toxic walpaper stripper is doing a good job. Might brave the steamer tomorrow though to see if it is as good as people say.

our hall carpet was poo brown with a mustard swirl pattern on it. the wallpaper was that feely ribbon type stuff lovely eh!
