Unhappy Cog

Zeldman’s latest project for Fox Searclight Pictures has left the building. I must say I was expecting something a bit more thrilling than this design. Yet again, the corporate influence dictates that fonts are specified in pixels thus rendering it unreadable to IE PC users who need big text.

Here goes nothing..

OK, We’re live. Now it’s up to you guys to tell me that things aint looking right. I haven’t had a chance to test this design in IE5.5/PC, Opera, IEMac yet. I have tested it on NS4, IE6 and Mozilla 1 on PC. Looks rosey on all but NS4 where there’s no design at all. [...]

Smoothly does it

The transistion between old style hand coding and future-proofing Content Management has been unbelievably smooth. Using CSS to define layout and design makes life so much easier when modifying templates and a wholly enjoyable process.
I’m in a position now that I’m happy to launch the new home page weblog tonight. There are a few creases [...]

Now available in CSS-P

So, here we go again. A shiny new layout that isn’t too dissimilar to the old one save for the fact that it’s now completely laid out using CSS-P. Even the old style sheet has been spruced up to accomodate the new trends in css.
Check out this page with styles turned off and you’ll see [...]

Bob’s yer uncle

After a little messing about and postulating on what makes the design of guyweb look so nice. I’ve come up with a new, subtler set of changes.
The width is still fixed to avoid massive lines of text but the sunglasses background stays. A few dotted lines here and there and bob’s yer uncle.

Grand Designs

The redesign continues. I’ve been experimenting with a fixed layout, aligned to the left with a more ‘boxed in’ feel. Not sure about it. Every time I look at what already exists I’m more drawn to it. So, what’ll I’ll try for tonight is a design so similar to the existing one that you’ll have [...]

GuyWeb - design update

I’m in the process of upgrading the design of guyweb.co.uk. Unlike Zeldman, I’ll be doing it behind closed doors until it’s ready. However, I’d quite like to discuss a few ideas with you before I try them out.
Firstly, I’ll be moving to a fixed width design. The reason for this is that my browser stats [...]

The Office - Episode 5

The penultimate episode of series two of the Office was aired on BBC2 last night. Perhaps the funniest episode of the series so far: David Brent’s dancing (”sort of fame with some MC Hammer shit”) had me weeping with laughter. Gareth came up with the goods yet again and Finchey’s red nose gag was absolutely [...]

Messing about with Movable Type

Some of you might be wondering why, after banging on about the fact that I’ve got Movable Type running I haven’t yet implemented it on the home page of this site. Well, after many stalled starts with GuyWeb I’ve learnt that patience really is a virtue. The new content management system is in beta. Those [...]

High Jinks at Alton Towers

Ralf and Jacquie came up to visit us here in Milton Keynes, bringing with them a pleasant touch of Southampton. Yesterday we went to Alton Towers and experienced the truly exceptional new ride ‘Air’ which really does give you the sensation of flying. Unfortunately we didn’t managed to get on the halloween maze but has [...]
